We'd been to a music festival near to Bedford and decided to carry on and have a look round the Cambridgshire fen country so we stayed at a site in Wicken.
The site is not perhaps for those who demand absolute peace and quiet because it's adjacent to a road so there's some traffic noise but we weren't unduly troubled by it.
It's managed by a friendly and helpful couple, Toni and Terence who have spent the greater part of their lives in Africa.
The site is well maintained with basic but clean facilities and caters for tents, caravans and motorhomes. The fee is £8 per night including ehu in the summer with an additional 50p charge during the winter.

The pitches are of a decent size although the site itself is fairly compact.

The shower at the moment is incorporated in the ladies toilets so gents who are shy and sensitive like myself need to get the timing right or learn to sing loudly  Laughing  but there is a new amenity block due to be built
The toilets and shower are cleaned daily by the site owners mother, a delightful octogenerian who enjoys a chat.

While we were staying at the site a birthday barbecue took place on the Saturday evening and we were lucky enough to be invited even though we didn't know anyone there.
Keith, one of the regulars had his guitar with him and together with his mate Mick they entertained us round a glowing campfire which was set up inside a ring of windbreaks in a firebucket.

It was one of the best nights on a campsite that I've had since childhood with the fire, soft music and the gentle hum of conversation drifting into the summer night.
The surrounding area has loads of places of interest with Cambridge as well as Grantchester where we took afternoon tea in the famous Orchard Tea Rooms a la Rupert Brooke. ( He wrote the poem about some corner of a foreign field being forever England as well as the one that end with ' Stands the church clock at ten to three
and is there honey still for tea')  Cool
There is a restored working windmill in Wicken and the owner showed us round while the mill was grinding corn into flour. It was like standing inside a living thing with the wind driving the sails round and the mill turning.
We particularly liked the town of Ely with the 'Ship of the Fens' which of course is the cathedral.
We will definitely be returning to the campsite to revisit the fens.

Sounds nice Steve...not sure about the traffic though.

The site does look tidy though

It looks ok but not too sure exactly where it is,even though I know the area quite well as I spent a lot of time in the general area back in the 60's around,Ely,Littleport and Welney as did Lolly.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, so many names, Steve, Parksy, Daphne and now Freddy. He also keeps on the move in his caravan so let me see  Think
I wonder if it's because he doesn't want his collar felt, I'm sure I've seen his pic on police station walls dressed as a priest.

Hiya Keith, it's great to hear from you mate Dancing
We'll be coming back for sure but this lousy weather has to clear up first.
Hope that you like the forum and don't forget to post a picture of your 'passion wagon' so that we can all see how the other half live  Laughing . Best Regards to all of those that we met and to T&T

Lord B. I'm only Daphne at weekends and you promised not to mention that Silenced
I have to have all of these aliases for two reasons.
The first is so that I can stay one jump ahead of one or two members from 'the other side' who might like to lynch me Hangs itself

The second reason is so that I can still get into C&CC sites after they reckoned that I'd slagged them off (They weren't best pleased  Rolling Eyes)
