This was our 4th visit to Two Chimneys. The site is very well run and very neat and tidy. We were visiting over the Bank Holiday so expected it to be very busy, however it didn't seem to be. The site is a mix of touring caravans, tents, private statics and rented statics, but still retains a small site feel to it.

On arrival you are given a map of the site and directions to your pitch. The pitches are a good size. Room for car, van and awning. we were lucky because we had no one next to us either side for the whole weekend (was it something we did!).

The pitches are laid our in long rows with trees and shrubs at the back of them. However you do get a bit of a problem with people cutting through between all the pitches. Several people had erected wind breakers at the back of their pitch to stop this. There are a handful of fully serviced pitches the rest are on grass, with no sign of mud. The pitches further back had wooden rail fences behind them so didn't have this problem.

There have been a few changes on site since our last visit. The lovely small top-field has been turned over to Caravan storage and a handful of long term pitches. The great park that was there has now been moved right over in the play field at the back of the site, next to the football area. There are 2 play parks - both of which are very well equipped and my daughter spent most of her time here, making lots of friends.

There is now also a huge field called "Laburnum Grove" behind the private static vans with access through this area. There are power points around the edge of the field. I was told this was used sometimes in peak periods, but the long term plan is to have static vans in here. The online map on their web site is also quite useful to see the park layout.

In the main touring area there is one shower block which gets very busy and at times the hot water runs out for showers and dish washing. However there are two more blocks on site and we used these instead and never had a problem. There are no mops to clean out your shower afterwards, but I saw Staff cleaning the showers and toilets throughout the day and making several checks. Washing up area in main block is small but the sinks at the other block were very good. So if you are prepared to walk for a minute to the other blocks you will find everything is more than adequate.

The other reason we go to this site is the indoor pool. It has a retractable cover, so in hot weather it is opened up. The rules on accompanied children under 15 are very strict and enforced on a regular basis. I think this is a good thing as it concerns child safety.

As well as the on site shop there are a couple of supermarkets in nearby Birchington if you need to stock up and a large out of town shopping area on the outskirts of Margate.

Site is situated near to some great Blue Flag beaches (Joss Bay, Stone Bay, and Botony Bay) and Several tourist attractions if weather not so good. Nearest resort is Margate, however we weren't too impressed. It seems to have really suffered in the current recession with many closed shops and derelict buildings. If you stick to the beach it's fine. Ramsgate and Broadstairs are a lot better. Deal Castle and Walmer Castle and gardens are well worth a visit too.

I would recommend Two chimneys without hesitation and we plan to return later in the year.
