We've just had 3 nights at this site www.fieldsendfishing.co.uk and were most impressed, it really is lovely. It started out a couple of years ago as a Caravan Club CL, but the owners have recently completed a 33 pitch new site next door to the CL, which is behind a high hedge. We stayed on the new site.

The CL is quite compact, all grass, is sheltered and has EHU and overlooks 'The Pool', one of the 2 fishing lakes on site. Just in front of the CL, in a car park serving the fishing lake, is a wooden hut containing 2 cubicles, each with toilet, sink and shower, one being for the CL and the other for the main site. There is also a separate toilet for the fishermen, all are clearly labelled. The hut also contains information for the fishermen and a small library of books to borrow.

The main site comprises half grass pitches and half hardstanding, all pitches are extremely large - we had plenty of room for our big twin axle, large car and an awning (if we'd used one!! - used the Fiamma sunshade instead) all side by side. The pitches have full service bollards (water, drainage and EHU) shared between two pitches, you may need up to about 15' of pipework to connect your water/drainage to the services, depending on which pitch you're on and whereabouts on your van your inlets/outlets are.

The site is level and on two tiers, the upper tier being just behind 'The Pit', the prettier of the two fishing lakes, all parts of the site have marvellous views across the flat fields of the Cambridgeshire fens. There are a few wind turbines clearly visible, but not near enough to hear. Some people may not like them, I actually think they're quite elegant, and infinitely preferable to pylons or power station chimneys.

The site is served by a brand new toilet/shower block, constructed to a high standard and making good use of lovely timber and slate tiled floor. In the ladies there are 3 toilets and 3 showers, one of which is suitable for disabled people. There is also a disabled-friendly toilet cubicle with wash basin. I'm told there are similar facilities in the gents (I suppose I could have investigated myself, on the grounds that I needed to for reporting purposes!! Laughing ). The showers are proper electric fully adjustable ones, the same as you'd have at home - none of those bloody annoying push button types that either scald or freeze your bits off - what joy!! I do have a couple of criticisms - the showers are quite small (apart from the disabled one), have no dividing curtain, no stool or fold up bench and only a couple of hooks on the door for your clothes, so there is a danger of them getting wet. And there is NO hairdryer, I always use my own in the van anyway, but a point to note. The toilet block also houses a laundrette, and there's an Elsan emptying point just outside.

There is also a flat, level tent field which has a few hook ups, tenters would share the amenity block with the caravan site.

Dogs are allowed, I believe there is a dog walk although we didn't investigate. There are, however, plenty of places to walk the dog nearby, and there are 3 walks direct from the site, you're given a map when you book in, along with a card for the security barrier.

Reception contains a shop selling some basic foods, and fishing stuff, and also has a small cafe. It's also home to 'Monkey', the owners' extremely friendly black labrador! I should mention that the owners are also extremely friendly and helpful, as are the wardens. The site has free wifi but not all parts of the site can receive it, the nearer you are to reception the more chance you have of getting it (we weren't).

The site has been a fishing location for a number of years and is extremely popular with fishermen. There are some really huge fish in the two lakes (the website gives more details) - Steve got so interested after watching the fishermen he took up fishing while we were there and Charlie, the friendly owner, loaned Steve his own personal fishing gear! Shocked Steve even managed to catch about 6 fish (shut up Martin! Wink ), they weren't huge but he was very pleased as it was his first go at coarse fishing (he likes sea fishing and beach casting, but that's not easy to do on an inland site Laughing ). People staying on site get a discount off the price of the day tickets.

I couldn't really say about local attractions, as we didn't really go anywhere, apart from a brief trip to get fuel. The site was so lovely and peaceful, and the weather so good, we just stayed on site and relaxed. Incidentally, it's an adults only site, although children are allowed on the CL. We will definitely be going back there. Very Happy

Nice review and pics Sue. Seems like a great little site but having no hairdryers in the toilet block would be a problem for me. Laughing Wink

Just a note to say the website link which I gave above, is currently experiencing some difficulties - you can't actually get on it, lol!! I've told Charlie (the campsite owner) about it and he's in the process of getting it sorted out, so it should be up and running again soon.

Well done Sue, good review.

That must have taken hours....blowing Steve's pic up that big....but making the huge minnow & lake look small Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Really glad you both enjoyed the site and the fishing.

We were here the day before it officially opened. We had a great time. Even though it was clearly not finished we were made very welcome. The 33 van site toilet block was still being worked on and never opened while we were there but we were allowed to have a sneaky look inside and we were very impressed. We used the cl facilities and without a doubt they were near perfect.
I will try to put some pics on that we took during our stay of the work going on.
