East Fleet Farm is a privately owned site situated on the shore of the Fleet, a sheltered lagoon next to Chesil Beach. The site is split into 2 halves separated by the private lane that is used for access. The Upper and Lower fields slope down to the Fleet and contain the play area and a toilet block. The Stable field, located on the right of the lane, contains a new toilet block and a mixture of grass and hardstanding pitches.

We arrived on a busy Saturday afternoon to be greeted by a cheery lad in the lane who checked us in on his list. He gave us a comprehensive guide to the site and told us to proceed through the barrier onto the Stable field. Once there, we were greeted by another employee who guided us to our pitch on a golf buggy. We had a grass pitch into which were inlaid 2 small stones. The only rule was to have our van between the stones but even with an awning and car at the side, there was loads of room left "for anything you want" as the man put it.

Dotted along the hedge that separated our pitches were the EHU bollards that served 4 users. On the reverse of each bollard was the shared water tap. The toilet block in our field was very clean and modern and contained 8 showers, separate toilets and dishwash area. What I like about this particular toilet block was that each shower cubicle had plenty of room with it's own toilet and washbasin. There are laundry facilities which are contained in the Upper Field toilet block.

The analogue TV signal has been switched off in this area so it's all digital. The directional Status aerial on our van had no problem picking up all 90-odd TV and radio channels.

The reception and shop are contained in one large building from where you could buy all of the food essentials and discounted tickets to local attractions such as the Sealife Centre in Weymouth. The shop also has a large caravan and camping equipment supply that would put some retailers to shame. You could pick up anything from spare caravan parts to camping kitchens.

Next to the shop in a separate building is The Old Barn pub and restaurant which I would recommend a visit to. Most of the food is homemade and the portions are generous. On our first of 2 visits, we had homemade chilli and chips which was £7.70. Not Wetherpsoons prices but the quality was much better. The bar serves a wide variety of beers and ciders including Palmers of Bridport real ales.

Should you not wish to drive into Weymouth and pay the £8.00 a day parking charge, a bus leaves the site 4 times a day for £2.00 return.

We were really impressed by this site and it's facilities and hope to visit again soon.

I'm glad you liked it Martin. It's just a pity about the gaudy windbreaks though which gives your first pic an impression of an untidy site.

Yes we got the bag which was quite a nice touch. We were on pitch 383 - what number were you on?

We put up a windbreak, blue in colour, at the back of the awning to try and give some shelter from the gale force winds that came in from the sea on a couple of nights. I was awoke in the early hours to hear the awning straining against the wind. I'd got visions of it taking off over the nearby hill like a kite but fortunately it stayed put.

If you look at the 4th photograph, you can just make out a windbreak. That was on the end of 1 of 3 pitches that all appeared to be taken by a family or friends. They has 3 large identical tents and 3 identical cars. And the windbreak's were identical and erected across the full length of all 3 pitches!

Well if anyone can convince me they are attractive please have a go. They make sites look more like gypo encampments Rolling Eyes

A bit like having a brown three piece suite with a blue carpet Shocked

If windbreaks are needed at least try to make them blend in so they are less conspicuous, they are sold or is it a case of trying to make Clumber Park look like Weymouth beach Very Happy .
People will be asking the wardens to rent out deckchairs soon Laughing

Oops, don't lets forget the kids and have a sandpit on each site Very Happy
